Burkina Faso's energy problems

Hi all,

Science's contribution to the Talking school project during this half term is based on the uses of energy and how to become more sustainable as a society. To that end, I present an article I read in The Independent which I will simplify for the students. The article reports on Burkina Faso's over-dependence on cutting their forests down for its' energy needs.

A significant statistic from the article is that about 85% of Burkina Faso's forests have been cut down. With the students working towards making an "eco-city" in the next few lessons, this is a sobering fact that needs to be considered.
